Inventory Control

Top  Previous  Next

The control of inventory is essential for any distribution / supply chain organisation and to that end, it is also the core of the Openda solution. It is this total integration that allows the simplicity and clarity of stock movements and its related functions throughout Openda.

Individual stock items can be controlled and defined by single or multiple warehouses. Each item is also held against a Product Range and Group. This grouping allows breakdown and analysis of both sales and nominal movements.

Openda Inventory can be set by item, by warehouse to be either "FIFO" (First In First Out), or "Serial" (Serial Lot Traceable). This ensures the freedom or restriction of stock movement desired by each organisation.

Each Warehouse Item is required to have a re-order type. This groups the items into like items for purchasing and review:

N - Non Stock - Items under this category are generally bought solely to meet actual demand. i.e. back to back ordering.

R - Re Order - This type is for items that should be stocked but ordered by review. I.e. as stock become low an order is placed, normally on a single drop delivery.

S - Scheduled - This type should never be out of stock as they are main sellers. Generally these items are placed on scheduled purchase orders.

P - Processed - These items are products that are either made in-house or are altered in some way.

There are specialist purchasing tools available to highlight demand, shortages and over stocking of these order types. See Purchasing Tools.
